Thank you for visiting our Hadrians Wall Run challenge site!

We are 5 runners from Crook Athletic Club, we're going to challenge ourselves by running the full 84 miles of Hadrians Wall path in under 24 hours, are we mad? We must be because we've also challenged ourselves to raise a huge amount of money for the Meningitis Trust.

Now, go here and donate for us, please!

*Confirmed Start Date* for 84 Mile Hadrians Wall Run

Well this is it everyone. We now have a confimed date for the start of the 84 mile run... Friday 15th of July!

A scary 84 mile run in one go. Not only that but the time target is to run it in under 24 hours!!

As you may know we have been organising this event for quite a while now and have our maximum number of runners (5 in total) confirmed, this is to protect the conservation of the wall itself.

3 of us are already training for a marathon (26.2 miles) this spring to warm-up for the huge 84 mile event in July, it's going to be a massive task.

What is going to be an even bigger task in the amount of money we are hoping to raise for the meningitis trust. During the run-up to the event we will be arranging various 'other' events to try and raise as much money as possible.

We already have commercial sponsors but need more, please get in touch with your ideas. :-) Need any info, please email or call 07709 444511

Watch this space for more info! Please invite as many people to this group as possible. Thank you.

PRESS RELEASE: Meningitis survivors take on Hadrian’s Wall run challenge

THE godfather of a teenage meningitis survivor is among those set to run the 84 miles of Hadrian’s Wall in 24 hours in aid of charity.

Jason Allison said the Meningitis Trust is a cause close to his heart as he and four others aim to raise thousands with their gruelling challenge.

The seasoned marathon runner, from Crook in County Durham, has organised an on-call doctor for the day-long feat which he hopes will raise £5,000.

Mike Mallon, 54, Martin Harbisher, 50, of Fir Tree, near Crook, Sam Beckett, 28, of Consett, and Mike Simpson, 41, from Bishop Auckland, will be joining him.

They will follow the Hadrian’s Wall path from Cumbria’s Bowness-on-Solway late on Friday, July 15, to Wallsend in North Tyneside in 20 to 24 hours.

Mr Allison’s godson, 15-year-old Lyndon Longhorne, also from Crook, lost both legs and part of his arm when he was struck down with the brain disease as a baby.

Mr Allison said: “I was at the bottom of Lyndon’s bed when he was ill all those years ago.

“The Meningitis Trust is such a good cause and I have had first-hand experience with Lyndon how beneficial it has been to them. We’re really looking forward to the run now.” Mr Simpson was also touched by the disease when his son Jacob, now six, fell ill as an 11-month-old.

Mr Simpson hopes people will give generously to the trust which offered him support after Jacob was rushed to hospital.

“He pulled through really well but for the first 24 hours it was touch and go,” he said.

“There could have been damage to the brain but there have been no after-effects and he is now doing really well at St Anne’s Primary School in Bishop Auckland.

“When you look at people like Lyndon who haven’t been so fortunate, we have been lucky.

“The Meningitis Trust puts information out there and gives people a lot of support.”

Lyndon’s mum Tammy Shevels said: “All the runners taking part have chosen an excellent charity to run in aid of as the Meningitis Trust offers support to all sufferers and is a charity close to our hearts.

“Jason is Lyndon’s godfather and knows what we have gone through as a family.

And she added: “Good luck to all the runners taking part in the challenge.”
